Umbilical is a rogue-lite game that explores the bond between a mother and her unborn child in a visceral, hostile world. I worked as a game designer on this game, which was presented at the Big Festival in 2022. It is currently being developed by DX Gameworks and can be added to Steam's wishlist.
I had the chance and delight of collaborating with an amazing team on this project. I worked with Eduardo Cucick and Ralph Santos on the game design team, where we fulfilled the same roles.
Game Design
As a game designer, I had the opportunity to be part of the first public playtest of the build presented at the Big Festival 2022. During the event, I collected in loco data and conducted data analysis to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, I worked on non-digital prototypes to explore enjoyable mechanics for the controls, camera, and character. I also defined and documented rule sets and guidelines for the proposed mechanics.
Level Design
I worked on level blockouts in Unreal Engine, aiming to create immersive environments that intuitively guide the player. This involved the implementation of event triggers and conducting internal tests to ensure the level design's effectiveness.
